Though designed to blend cast members into a cohesive, moving group, the show can’t help but highlight some standout players. Cleverly, and with subtlety, performances by Ilyse Robbins and Russell Garrett – as Mr. and Mrs. McGuckin, who take in Emily Book upon her return to town – connect with the audience, drawing them more intimately into the storyline.
